How to use Directory America

Click on one of the topics below.

How to find a business. Go to the Directory America home page and type the phone number for a business in the space. Then click the "Search" button. If a match is found, you'll be taken to the business's personal home page with information on their products or services and address and phone information.

How to become a member. It's easy to become a member of Directory America! In just a few minutes you can have your own home page and email, all free of charge. To begin, you should check to see if your business has already been set up at Directory America.

  1. Click on the "Member Login" link at the top of the screen.
  2. Under "First time merchant login", enter your primary phone number and click the "Initial login" button.
If you're already in our database, you'll be taken a page where you can set up your account. See then entry, "How to set up your account" below. If you're not in the Directory America database, it's still easy to create your listing. A message will appear with a link, or you can click the "List your business" link at the top of the page.

How to set up Outlook Express for email. If you use Outlook Express, you can set it up to access your eamil at Directory America. (If you use a different email program, the steps will be very similar to the ones outlined below.) Follow these instructions to begin using your Directory America email account.

  1. From the Start menu, click "Programs" then "Outlook Express". This will start the Outlook Express program.
  2. On the File menu, click "Identities" then "Add new identity..."
  3. Where it says "Type your name", enter your name the way you usually write it, for example "Marty Roma". Click "OK".
  4. A box will appear that says "Do you want to switch to Marty Roma now?" Click "Yes".
  5. Outlook Express will start up the Internet Connection Wizard. Where it says "Display Name" enter your name again and click "Next".
  6. Click on "I already have an e-mail address that I'd like to use". Where is says "Email address:" enter your email just as it appears on the Merchant Administration Form, for example, "roma@directoryamerica.com". Click "Next".
  7. For Email Server Names, enter mail.directoryamerica.com for both "Incoming mail server" and "Outgoing mail server". Click "Next".
  8. For Internet Mail Logon, enter your Directory America Login ID in the "Account name" field and your Directory America password in the "Password" field. Make sure the "Remember password" box is checked. Click "Next", then "Finish". (Note: if you change your Directory America password, your email password stays the same.)
  9. Your email is now set up and ready to use!

How to set up your account. The Merchant Administration Form is where you enter all of your account information as well as descritive information about your business. You can also upload images of your logo or products. If you are already in the Directory America database, or if you have set up you account before and are just making updates, then many of the fields will already be filled in. You can add or change information wherever you like. If a field is required, there is an asterisk (*) near its name.

Here are notes on some the the fields:

  • We ask for your mother's maiden name in case you forget your password and need to gain access to the site.
  • Intimate Pages is a free add-on available from Directory America. Click here for more information. Click Yes to get a limited time free membership.
  • In the Email field, enter any non-Directory America email account name that you would like to have displayed on your page. If you opt-in to the free email account provoided by Directory America, this will appear as "Atl email" in your listing"
  • Under "Design Information" you cen select a base color for your listing and enter information about your business and your products or services. You can also upload images that will be dispalyed on your page.
When you're done entering your data, click the "Submit" button. If all the information is correct, you'll be taken to a page where you can view the completed listing.

If you would like to change some of the information, just click the "Merchant Administration" link at the bottom of the page.
